Oh love, oh love Won't you rain on me tonight? Support. General Commentfor me it is a simple love song. The video is all about this scene of tattooed people and rocker-like men with enough skin showing moments- so that one can imagine its about a relationship including sex drugs and rock n roll=) maybe.
Now the one singing is living divorced from his lover (far away far away.) and is feeling somehow not allright and misses the other person (the line about the heart). In my point of view the sound of the voice singing expresses nerve-wracking waiting (waste away tonight, hours hours.) or the fact that he is doing anything just because of using right opportunities- one can tell in a very bad way. There is nothing the person thinks he could actually do except for enduring this feeling of 'pending' because his faith has been left undecided (life oh life please don't pass me by). This is probably what the songwriters supposed this song to be about. Im just totally in love myself (all over, body and mind) and just wish that there could be something to legitimate the situation without the feelings on both sides.
My InterpretationI sort of feel like this is a song about being older and realizing that you've wasted time chasing after physical gratification when you could have been looking for something more meaningful. This is the interpretation I've settled on after watching the music video, with all of the gorgeous 20-something tattooed young models writhing about on camera while the band (each member of which is 40 years old now) sings. It's as if the musicians don't see the young beauties, singing past them, addressing themselves to 'Love.' Their careers have brought them an embarrassment of the flesh, but they yearn for something more spiritual.
My InterpretationOne way that I see this is that it's about how the band is a relationship that's lasted a long time, and every time they get up on stage they're doing what they love, a love affair that's gone on forever, and every time they make decisions they're taking risks of losing it, preparing to hang themselves with their own love of the thing if it doesn't work out, but it's a risk worth taking, and they keep doing it. And maybe sometimes it strays from that, becomes about something else, or the wonder of what it would be to give it up.
