The first discotheque in the steel city - Double Down - makes its debut on July. A venture of hotel Dayal International in Sakchi, Double Down will open doors to the party people at Om Towers first floor in Bistupur. Double Down will be spacious, the disco-cum-pub sprawling over 4,000sqft. So, after some energetic dance moves, visitors can take a break at the plush pub with eats and beverages. 'This will be the first official discotheque-cum-pub in the city,' said Roshan Mahto, general manager of Double Down.

'We are all excited about the venture.' 'While the dance floor, which can accommodate 50 people at a time, will be equipped with digital screens and laser lights, the DJs will play music of various genres such as trance, jazz, rock and Bollywood,' he said. He added they planned to rope in local DJs for weekdays and bring down DJs from Calcutta, Mumbai and Delhi on weekends. Live performances of local artistes and bands are also planned. Youngsters can also croon to soft numbers at karaoke nights. A beverage counter will serve hand-picked mocktails, cocktails and hard drinks. An interactive food counter will have a spread of yummy Indian and Continental bites.
Owners will hire bouncers to ensure security of visitors, especially women, the general manager promised. 'We are yet to decide the entry charges for stags and couples, even though we will not allow people below 18 years of age,' said Mahto. 'As of now we will keep the venue open till 11pm as per the rules. We haven't yet applied for a night club licence. There are not many party hoppers in the city, so we want to initially check the response and then apply for the licence,' added the general manager. For Jamshedpur's young and young-at-heart crowd, who don't have too many options to party, a disco appears enticing.
We have always whined about not having a proper disco or night club in the city. I am really looking forward to visit the disco and have a blast with my friends,' said Rajiv Gaur, a city-based radio jockey. But, Piyush Verma, a student from Jamshedpur Co-operative College, sounded more unsure. 'I've always love the calmness of this city, which is why I preferred studying here than going to metropolitan cities. I don't know how a disco will change the culture of this place. So far, I have only heard and seen discos in films till now.
But, well, I don't mind trying out the disco once though,' he said.
